The virtuoso instrumental ensemble led by Concertmaster Elizabeth Wallfisch, acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of music of the 18th Century, will thrill you with an evening of sparkling Vivaldi concertos, interspersed with virtuoso vocal arias by Handel, sung by mezzo-soprano Sally-Anne Russell, familiar to Carmel Bach Festival audiences for her exquisite, lyrical and moving voice.
Program Notes:
Beethoven once declared, “Not brook (Bach) but ocean should be his name.” No composer since can escape the influence of the towering ‘Cantor of Leipzig.’ High among them is Johannes Brahms, himself a master of counterpoint, and, under the direction of acclaimed violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch, savor the intimate links from Bach to Brahms in works for strings by both masters, starting with a rare string arrangement of the great motet “Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied.”
