Festival Soloists: Michael Dean

Bass–Baritone – Los Angeles, CA

This is Michael’s third season in Carmel. He has an international operatic and concert career. His operatic credits include many productions at the New York City Opera where he has performed the title role in The Marriage of Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, George in Of Mice and Men, Don Alvaro in Viaggio a Reims, and Papageno in The Magic Flute. He has sung Don Giovanni and Ernani at the Landestheater in Linz, Austria; Figaro and La Fancuilla del West in Antwerp, La Boheme in Strasbourg in Berlin; Figaro with Glimmerglass Opera; and Orfeo with Boston Baroque. His numerous recordings of baroque opera include Agrippina, Ottone, Dido and Aeneas, Radamisto, Guistino and Xerxes. On the concert stage, he has sung with the New York Philharmonic under Kurt Masur; the Verdi Requiem in Singapore; Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall; Bach Cantatas at Disney Hall with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra conducted by Helmut Rilling; Haydn’s Creation and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the Kennedy Center; and the Bach Magnificat with the Toronto Symphony. His New York debut recital was sponsored by The Marilyn Horne Foundation. Michael is Professor of Voice at UCLA.
